Content writer open to referrals

I am a content writer who has written on a number of serious and semi-serious subjects. My clients have included the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson where I wrote some copy for an online campaign for Calpol. I also have written material for a fast food chicken franchise.

I attach some information to help you become a freelance writer. I hope they prove helpful to you.

Like most writers I spent a number of years on freelance platforms such as Upwork, Elance, Peopleperhour and Fiverr. This do seem a bit of a waste of time as they take a hell of a percentage and once you leave a particular platform (or it changes - for instance Elance became Upwork) you cannot keep access to your clients.

A good clients are a rare beast and many tend to be wily in nature, taking your writing or your edits of their work and swanning off without paying. It's recommended that you set milestones so at least you do receive some recompense for your efforts. Remember too that if a client sends you a contract to read it thoroughly, not all NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) are the same.  

Although it is a good idea to specialize, write for clients who require comedy or those who need someone to look over their children's novels for instance, this is in practice quite tricky to do and it limits your client base. It's best to see what you are good at, who keeps rehiring you and where you might need to improve. None of this is ground-breaking stuff but I feel it may help you.

If you have a specific condition, for instance autism, it might be possible to write about this condition and gain blog followers, especially if you look at the condition in a novel way. It may come down to keywords in the end rather than how good a writer you are.
