Craigslist - How To Post Outside of Your City
I believe Craigslist is still a remarkable way to get the word out about your business opportunity.
Craigslist's deal is that they are a local marketing platform. They want you advertising where you live and where you live only! Also Craigslist doesn't like spam. They want you to be a "real" company, advertising "real" jobs. They frown on anything remotely looking like MLM or Network Marketing. ANYTHING that looks like a so-called money-making scheme, they DO NOT WANT!
This is one of the many reasons some network marketers have given up posting ads on Craigslist. The other reasons? Posting ads that get "flagged" or "ghosted".
Did you know that Craigslist DOES NOT FLAG ADS?
If you post an ad and your ad is flagged, you can thank your fellow "hater" of a network marketer for that. That's right. You post a great ad and one of your competitors sees it, they "narc" to Craigslist and poof, your ad is gone bye-bye! Craigslist doesn't even check the validity of the "stool pigeon" who reported your ad, they'll just remove it.
The other reason...ghosting. If you don't know what ghosting is, it's simply you placing an ad on Craigslist, then you receive a confirmation email link that your ad was approved. Then a few minutes later you check the section you placed the ad in and your ad has mysteriously disappeared, nowhere to be found. Your ad has just been "ghosted."So what do you need to do to succeed promoting your business on Craigslist?
Here's the "white-hat" way:Post in your city and your city alone. Post no more than 3 times a day. Post every 72 hours. And for God's sake, don't try and deceive would be job seekers on Craigslist by creating ads that look like you're hiring people.
Here's the "black hat" way :
Let's say you're going to try and post ads 5 days a week and outside of your area for more exposure of your business opportunity.
You're going to need (5) Gmail accounts. Each account needs to be associated with one specific area. For example, if you've created a new Gmail account for where you live in Waco, Texas. Then you'll need another Gmail account if you wanted to post in Tupelo, Mississippi. So, create five email accounts. Gmail seems to work best.
Secondly, you'll need (5) different phone numbers. Each one of your Gmail accounts needs to have a specific phone number designated to it. You'll need the different phone numbers for Craigslist's verification purposes only. Once you get your account phone verified, you don't have to worry about it anymore. And where do you get five different phone numbers? Ask several of your friends and family members if you could use their phone number for marketing purposes just once for your business.
Third, you'll need (5) different IP addresses in which you can post. The best way to obtain this task is by subscribing to a VPN site like HideMyAss.com. There you can change IP addresss everytime you post.
What you're basically doing here is giving Craigslist the impression that there are (5) DIFFERENT people posting ads, but it's just really you!
And all you're going to do is on Monday use Craigslist account #1 that day and post twice that day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. The 2nd day Tuesday you use account #2 and post outside your area, twice that day, the 3rd day use account #3 and post in some other city, twice that day, the fourth day use account #4 and post in another city and so on. This way you fall in the parameters of Craigslist's so-called 48 hour rule, because before you finally get around to account #1 again, 5 days will have past. Plus when you post twice a day, your ad can scroll back up to the top due to so many ads being placed.
Try not to post in too many popular cities because depending on what category you choose to post in, Craigslist now charges a fee. My recommendation is post in "off the wall" cities and in the "Jobs" section for sales/biz dev and stay away from small biz ads in the "Services" section. Everybody goes there to post ads.Good Luck!
