How my local bricks and mortar bookstore competes with Amazon ...
... And how a newbie with no budget can get traction in Internet Marketing.
My friend Mel owns a physical boookstore in my home town. It's no Waterstones, and certainly not Barnes and Noble. And it's definitely not Amazon.
Now you might think that there woulld be no way she could survive in a world where you can download a book onto your Kindle, or an audio book onto your phone, a world or seemingly infinite choice. But she not only survives, she thrives.
What has she got that Amazon hasn't?
She is an active and popular member of the community.
She holds reading sessions for local kids; she brings famous authors to our small town; she even hosts an annual literary festival. And she's always posting useful and entertaining content on social media. Rarely does she ask you in those posts to buy a book.
As a result people know her, like her and trust her. If they're already looking for book they'll go to Mel's She can advise on suuitable books on pretty much any subject, and is more than willing to order a physical book for overnight delivery.
When you start network marketing you're often asked to make a list of a hundred people you interract with - your mother, your brother, your significant other. Your kid's teacher, your hairdresser. Just about averyone. The you have so not so subtly introduce them to your opportunity.
This is a tried and tested method and it works. If you're good at taking rejection. If you don't mind your friends avoiding you or blocking you on Facebook. It can be soul dsetroying and to me it just feels creepy.
So how can we internet maketers be more like Mel and be part of our community? Become known, liked and trusted and ultimtely bought from?
Content. Show up and post content. VALUABLE content. Teach somethng of rea lvalue to someone, answer a question, tell your story - even if you don't have any results yet. Be authentic. Say you're just starting out. This is where you are in your journey, and as you learn somethiing, you will pass the knowledge on.
If you don't have anything to teach, read blog posts, watch YouTube videos and MODEL your posts on what you read.
Don't expect, or even ask for the sale. Do this with the wish to add value to the world. Over time you will become someone who has traction in the Internet Marketing space. People will want to support you, to work with you. To buy whatever you offer.
What can you post? Lifesttyle posts! Show you spending time with your dog, doing macrame - wjatever you enjoy doing. Educational posts. If you learn something, pass it on. Jokes. People love jokes. And then information about your offer.
The recording software is free, You Tune is free. Social media and blogs are free. And a domain costs twenty dollars.
As I learn stuff I I will pay it forward. I'll be real and aim to add real value to my commuity.
I know it will reap rewards.
