Owning your own life....

What DOES it mean to "Own your own life!" Have you ever really thought about it? Most people would say no, they haven’t. Why is that? Well, it’s because we have been indoctrinated, from cradle to grave, that the American dream is to get a good education, find a stable career and then retire somewhere between 60 and 70 years old. Sadly, however, we retire on a third of what we struggled to live on while we were working. It’s insane! We’re never told there’s a better what to earn a living; to facilitate us “owning our own lives.”

Owning your own life, in truth, means having time freedom as well as financial freedom to enjoy your life; to do the things in life that you WANT to do, either by yourself or your family, without having to consult your pocketbook before doing it; to take vacations, trips, see the sites. It means waking up when your body is done sleeping rather than when the alarm clock goes off (interrupting and amazing dream of having a better life) because you have to get up and get ready to go to a job that you probably aren’t totally happy with, just to make enough money to keep a roof over your head, the lights on, and the repo man from repossessing your car. It means never punching a time clock or having to answer to anyone but yourself. It means that you are your own boss; the master of your own destiny. You dictate how you live your life rather than having to answer to “the man.”

Let me ask you a question. If money wasn’t an object stopping you from doing the things you love and want to do, what would you do and where would you go? What would you buy? Who would you help? I’m sure you’ve never even considered that question; not seriously, anyway. We entertain that notion in gest and joke that, “That’ll never happen.”
