The MOIA Flight Plan to Freedom

In his very interesting book, Flight Plan to Success, former US Navy Pilot turned Business and Life Coach, JT Debolt, describes how, as ordinary individuals, we can use the Life GPS to chart our way to success in life, in the same way that aircraft pilots and motorists use an electronic GPS to navigate their way to their destination. The difference is that in the Life GPS, the letters G, P, and S do not stand for Global Positioning System, as they do for an electronic GPS. Let me explain…

In his book, JT Debolt talks about the success equation, which he defines as:

Success = G + P + S

Where G stands for Goals, P is for Purpose and S stands for Strategy.

In other words, success results from a combination of your Goals, your Purpose behind those goals, and the Strategy you employ to achieve those goals.

Using the Life GPS to Navigate Your Way to Success

Now, in order to perform its function, a normal GPS has to have a starting point and destination coordinates punched into the machine. The Life GPS is no different. It requires you to clearly define the destination of your journey by articulating your goals or objectives, and to take stock of the resources you have at your disposal as the starting point.

The nature of your goals, whether they be business, personal finances, lifestyle etc., is not important. What matters is that they are clearly defined and achievable. In other words, they must not be too ambitious and beyond your ability to reach them, and you should specify a time limit by which they must be achieved. No need to worry about any obstacles that you may perceive as standing in your way of achieving them at this stage because these will be overcome along the way.

In a similar way, you need to understand your starting point. How much time, money and other resources you have at the outset will determine how you go about achieving your goals - your plan for success. To give an extreme example, if your goal is to, say, make one million dollars within 12 months, then your plan will be drastically different if you are starting with $250 compared with you having, say, $250,000 to begin with.

Whatever your circumstances, the thing to always remember is that “you have all the resources you need to achieve your goals,” even if at this point in time some of those resources may not be immediately available to you. But the biggest resource of all, which is the availability of other people who can help you in whatever way is appropriate to your needs, that resource is always available to you in abundance, particularly in this age of the Internet.

So, when you know clearly where you want to go, and you know your starting point, then the Life GPS will make it clear which path to take, in the same way that an aircraft pilot or motorist has their path clearly mapped out ahead of them by an electronic GPS.
