Jonathan’s & Jeanne’s Java, Juice & More Store
My boyfriend Jonathan Saunders and I both have disabilities. I have Spina Bifida and I am in a power chair. Jonathan has traumatic brain injury. He currently works part time at a farm run by an organization called Community Living Opportunity which provides housing and jobs for adults who have developmental disabilities in Kansas. He receives benefits from the state of Kansas so he needs to keep living in Kansas. Therefore, we want to start our business in Overland Park, Kansas. However, we would like to see our business eventually go nationwide, etc.
Our dream for our business is to bring awareness to the general public of the various types of disabilities by providing a bookstore/library where they can come to take classes, watch videos, and research about whatever disability they want to know more about while enjoying fresh brewed coffee served by employees who want to work in a positive environment of love and acceptance. Employees who want to do meaningful work and educate the world around them about the skills people of all abilities have...love, kindness, hard work, and diligence. We will only ask for donations because many of our employees will have a limit of how much income they can receive. Any donations above the cost of business expenses will go toward Habitat for Humanity so they can build accessible housing for individuals who are challenged.
The coffee shop would be similar to Bitty & Beau’s Coffee Shops on the east coast. We will serve coffee, sandwiches, doughnuts and other pastries...some of which will be gluten free, etc.
We are a group of people desiring to become an organization dedicated to serving the Greater Kansas City by giving people with challenges a chance to work side by side people who are not challenged and educating the general public about their challenges. Jonathan and I need someone who knows how to run a business to run the business side of things. We also need someone who has money to start and maintain a business. This could be one person, two people, or more than two people. Since our employees will be people who are physically or mentally challenged, we would need workers who are knowledgeable in how to work with those types of employees. We are looking for potential employees who are professional and good with children adults of various abilities. We want someone who knows how to run a daycare, coffee shop, and bookstore.
