Having Trouble Getting Started?
Hey, how's it going?
Time for another video. Marketing with Dave... or hanging out with a Rebel or Rebel Marketing... whatever you want to call it.
I was having trouble thinking about what to talk about today because there's so much on my mind and I wasn't sure where to go. But I've got something now it's about being stuck.
I was stuck on figuring out what to talk about. And it seems that most people have the hardest time overcoming the inertia of just starting. And this happens whether it's brand new, you're doing something new, or you've been doing something for a while.
And you're going to try something new... or even on a daily basis like this video, or an email. You have trouble getting started and it’s physics. Everything goes down to physics, right?
This is just like the laws of physics. Of everything.
Anything not in motion tends to stay that way, and anything in motion tends to stay that way, until acted upon by an outside force.
So maybe this video for you is going to be outside force that gets you going.
Bottom line. When you don't know what to do, you've just got to do something. You start and then see where it goes from there.
A lot of times this is a result of having too much knowledge, too much information on things to try, and you're not sure what to do.
And it's weird because we can get into this cycle of, “Well I don't know what to do, so let me study this.” And then you learn something, and then you move on to learn something else, and you move on to learn something else.
And finally you figure out, “Oh, I've got to DO something." So you start doing something but you try it a couple of times and it doesn't work out exactly how you think it should.
So you figure that didn't work. So you're going to try something new, and you take a little bit of action in this direction. And the same thing can continue to happen over and over until you grasp the fact that you've got to do ONE thing and do it A LOT, if you ever want to get good at it.
I'll even go one step further than that. You've got to do something a lot just to see if it'll work... to make it work.
For instance, say you're doing a Facebook ad, and you do it. You run a couple of ads and it's not working well. If you know what to measure, you can say, “What's my objective here?"
You get so many clicks and so many people to view your video, or read your sales page, or whatever it is. And you may be getting nobody that clicks on the ads. So in this case you know your ad is no good. You're going to have to try different things, so you just continue to try, and you're just going to have to continue to do different things all the time until you find one thing that works.
A funny part about it is most of the time you won't know why it worked. You'll have something that Bam, all of a sudden you nail it, and the only thing... at that point... the point is to continue using it until it doesn't work anymore.
Because when you try to do the same thing, you might think it's like... this is the exact same thing. But no result. So you just have to keep on going back and forth and trying different things.
Because that's the only way you're going to continue to keep things moving.
You've got one that's working, you gotta be testing all the time. The next thing, because whenever that one stops working (and it will), you're going to have to have something to replace it right away.
This is the concept. This is what I mean about how when you get started on something, you continue on it, and it moves into different areas.
But the main thing about getting started is just to do it.
Do not be married to the outcome if it doesn't work. So what? Try something else.
It's like, imagine if you're trying to find a date and this girl or guy doesn't like you. Well that's cool. There's a million other ones out there, so you try another one. You don't give up. Sooner or later you find someone.
And that's how everything works.
So if you're having trouble, and don't know what to do when you're just getting started, you've just got to throw something out there and see what the result is. See if people like it.
So get out there and try something new today.
Need a jumpstart?
That's all I got for now. I'll talk to you tomorrow, right?
I'm out.
