5 COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHILE TAKING SUPPLEMENTS AND HOW TO AVOID THEM.

COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHILE TAKING SUPPLEMENTS/VITAMINS

Have you ever felt you are not having results that correspond with the price of the supplements you have been taking over the years or wondered if they are working at all and if taking them is worth the efforts? What about having a feeling that the supplements are actually adding to your problems or causing new problems rather than solving them? My dear, you are not alone. I have been there before and I can feel your pulse. Years back in the early nineties when organic/natural supplements became popular and were newly introduced and marketed on multi-level basis in our society, I fell a victim of the abuse of throwing a bunch of random supplements into my mouth without taking time to find out their various compositions and interactions and I ended up with a very bad constipation and headache until I discontinued usage. A friend of mine used one popular supplement that was to take care of arthritis and she ended up being bedridden for days while another person who was bed ridden due to the same arthritis used the same product and got up in hours after using the product with a testimony. It all bothers on one thing; wrong usage of such supplements either out of ignorance or due to the desire to get fast results and so we need to be corrected. Below are some of five recorded major mistakes made while taking supplements and some easy escape routes.

RANDOM AND UNCHECKED TAKING OF SUPPLEMENTS.

First, grabbing a bunch of just any available supplements or vitamins and swallowing them without reading up their compositions to ensure that there is no constituent in the supplement that interacts with a constituent in another supplement you may be combing is a huge error. An example is the idea of taking iron at the same time with vitamin E as they both block each other’s absorption. In such a case, you will have no effect or result from any of them. Another example is taking iron tablets at the same time with zinc tablets. Iron inhibits the efficacy of zinc so you must increase zinc intake while taking Iron otherwise you may have little or no effect of the zinc. On the other hand, Iron will work optimally with vitamin C. In effect, a good knowledge of the compatibility of the supplements you are taking at a particular time is vital for maximum results.

TAKING TOO LITTLE OR TOO MUCH OF THE SUPPLEMENTS.

Secondly, taking too little or too much of the supplements you are supposed to take at a time can make the supplement ineffective or dangerous. Typing “hypervitaminosis” into the search engine to get knowledge about the supplements and their respective values to ascertain the number of each item’s IU and the value you are expected to take per day will give you better results.

WRONG TIMING OF SUPPLEMENT’S INTAKE

A third common mistake is wrong timing of supplements’ intake which can inhibit it’s effectiveness or even cause problems. Some vitamins are best taken in the morning especially the energy boosting vitamins so as to utilise the energy for the day’s activity while some boost melatonin which induces better sleep and so need to be taken at nights otherwise one may feel drowsy during the day and at work. Imagine taking such while having to drive a car or handle some harmful items that require alertness.

TAKING FAT SOLUBLE VITAMIN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH

Fourthly, some people make the mistake of taking fat soluble vitamins on an empty stomach which can cause gastric problems whereas they work better with food. Vitamins A. D and K are all fat soluble and must be taken with food for best results.

LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR BODY AND YOUR ALLERGIES

Lastly but not the least, if people are not knowledgeable about their individual bodies and some items they are allergic to, or they do not take it into consideration while taking supplements they may end up in a chaos like my friend did. The fact is that some ingredients in some supplements may react badly on one person if he or she is allergic to the ingredients while the same items work wonders on another person who has no allergy to it. You must read up the components and ensure that from your history or family history as much as you know, you have no known allergy to any of the composition of the supplements you take.

In conclusion, a fair knowledge of the supplements you plan to take or you are taking will enable you keep out of trouble as well as make you enjoy the full benefits of the items. At the same time, it is important to note that supplements are not intended to replace normal meals. Just as the name implies, they are to supplement our food, fruits, vegetables and all other edibles we need daily. In effect, take your vitamins/supplements as well as your daily food so as to enjoy and maintain optimum health all of which will contribute to ensure you achieve a boosted body immunity to enable you ward off any known or unknown sicknesses and diseases.
