Ceramic Manufacturing

Hi, my name is Nick and I have a ceramic manufacturing business in Port Elizabeth, South Africa called Denique Art Works. I started the business more than 15 years ago but kept it small and I am currently running it as a home business. I worked as a production manager for a large firm in Germiston, South Africa and gained most of my knowledge about ceramics and mold making there.

I have a vast range of items that I manufacture and specialize mainly in functional ware, but also have a range of items that can be used as gifts. There are also items suitable for decoupage, hand painting and glazing. I have been selling mainly the raw article (bisque ware) which customers purchase, and then paint or glaze to add value, but I am now also getting back into producing finished goods again. I engrave genuine ostrich eggs when I can get the shells (they are difficult to get) and I am looking into doing more items for the curio market, like coffee tables and wall hangings, among others. I am a qualified mold maker and regularly add new models to the range. I am always looking for new ideas and welcome suggestions for new items. I make Potato, Onion and Garlic pots mainly for the local market because of transport costs for these large items.  My new range of money boxes are selling well and I have Spiderman, Minnions and Piggies at the moment with more to come.

One of my other interests is sculpting and I am busy setting up a foundry where I will be casting some of my work in bronze and other materials and will do some ceramic sculptures as well. I am working on a new range of exclusive post boxes, because the locally available ones are very limited and I feel there is a need for something different.
