Fight Human Trafficking with Better Way Designs

Better Way Designs a fair trade marketplace for Freedom businesses (companies that are using business as a sustainable model to help end human exploitation). We represent 20 companies in 10 countries. Better Way has transitioned from a brick and mortar store (founded in 2004) to the direct sales model, starting in 2016. We are a part of the Fair Trade Federation and also a certified B corporation (a certification that is certifies that we are a business that balances profit with purpose-there are many standards that have to be met to obtain either of these certifications). 

We operate off of the party-model, and our hosts open up their sphere of influence so we can help to make a greater difference. Through supply and demand, the more Freedom Fighters that join, the more hosts that book parties and the more people invest in our products, the more our global partners can do for outreach and employ and restore more women. All of our suppliers are required to pay their employees a livable wage (most often this is higher than minimum wage, and often, their employees are salaried) and employ women rescued from sexual exploitation or at risk for being exploited. These businesses also provide professional counseling, health care, child care, education and job skill training. It is wholistic care, as those rescued from sex trafficking often require extensive help to get to a spot where they can take care of themselves and their families.

Better Way is an ethical business, not a charity, so there is not a percentage that “goes to the cause”. Because it is fair trade business, all of the women employed by our business partners are paid a livable wage and a safe working environment (as being Fair Trade requires) and given free child care, counseling, education, job skill training and some of our partners have been around long enough that they have developed pension plans!

When someone purchases an item, there is not “a percentage that goes back to the women” because the women have all been paid like you or I would at a job, either a livable daily wage or many are salaried! Better Way Designs pre-purchases their merchandise monthly at fair prices set by the supplier.
