It's All About You

I carried out a small research project recently about peoples’ views of various business opportunities. I even discovered some negative comments about my own opportunity. No publicity is bad publicity, right? Well, so long as the writer has the correct facts and sadly, too often they don’t. So that leads me to another question. Though, one I am not qualified to answer because I know nothing about the people who wrote those assessments and what was going on in their lives and businesses at the time of writing.

What motivates people to write negative assessments or reviews of anything?

One-word pops to mind; Experience. Something happened on their journey that led them to form a negative opinion. So, instead of trying to stay on purpose and follow their path, they take a de-tour into negative territory and lose their way. Once off course, it’s exceedingly difficult to get back and many people often seek out people who will reinforce their opinion. It becomes a ‘thing’ that prospers on dis-empowering information.

Some years ago, I joined an mlm company in the UK. I was recovering from a serious accident at the time and didn’t fully consider the difficulties I might experience from delivering catalogs and fulfilling orders people made. Not to mention recruiting people into the business. I earned pennies while some people were making a fortune and It didn’t take long to realize that I needed to re-think.

So, I found another company and smashed their challenge to become a manager in 90-days. I did it in just under 60-days. Still, for reasons I’m not going to explain here, I decided that I was not in the right place. This opportunity, like the previous, was not for me. And, ‘me’ is the operative word here because the reasons why these opportunities weren’t working was all about me and little about the opportunities or their associated products or compensation plans. Yet, I could have very easily blamed those companies by saying that some ‘things’ about them were at fault.

I took a break from Network Marketing and wrote and published a couple of fictional novels. Still, the idea of creating the financial freedom that many people talked about was never far from my mind. Looking at my skills and professional experience, I realized that I needed to find an opportunity that had products I could relate to because I believe that we need to be a product of the product. Not only that, I also knew that my greatest successes had been where teamwork was at the top of the list.

My profession had been in Community and Youth Service with focus on the personal development of clients; I needed a company that delivered personal development products, offering positive training and support and, a great compensation plan. I ticked all those boxes and the journey is wonderful. When I come across those negative reviews, I send a message of love out to the universe and hope that those reviewers will find what they’re looking for.
