How to Capitalize on the CBD Boom

If you haven’t noticed, Cannabidiol or CBD, is the new buzzword sweeping the globe in health and wellness. Widely popular in many circles, it’s relatively unknown to the general public. With its gaining popularity, let's look at what’s making this product so attractive.

First, what is CBD? As aforementioned, Cannabidiol, or CBD and is a naturally occurring compound found in the flower of cannabis. First discovered in the 1940s, CBD has not been highly studied until the last 5-6 years or so with scientists and medical professionals discovering its therapeutic properties. CBD comes in many forms such as a liquid, candy, cream, and a wide variety of food products that you can infuse with it. These are the two components of cannabis that have been most studied by scientists. Both CBD and THC have significant therapeutic attributes. There are many common misconceptions associated with the two.

The health benefits that CBD are numerous. The endocannabinoid system located in your body has 65 receptors that respond to CBD. Several systems in the body such as the immune, vascular, reproductive, and skeletal system are positively affected by CBD. Around 2500 clinical studies have been done on CBD and hundreds of studies have been published. Epilepsy and seizures, anxiety and mood disorders, psychosis, insomnia, inflammation, pain, skin ailments, crohn’s and IBD, degenerative diseases, cancer treatment, and heart health are just some of the health benefits related to the use of CBD. With a growing list of health benefits and increases in use and testimonials from people, we will begin to see more uses for CBD as time goes on. In addition, CBD is safe for animals and is commonly used on horses and dogs to treat pain, anxiety, and sleep issues. This is a benefit and selling point for pet lovers.

With any big boom product, there is a huge opportunity to invest. What may be the biggest boom product of the century, investors and entrepreneurs are racing to gain an edge in the marketplace. Google “CBD predictions” and you will find a multitude of articles about the future of CBD. Forbes predicts the CBD industry will reach 20 Billion by the year 2022. Other reports cite a growth of over 700% in the upcoming years. However, with rapid growth in CBD consumption and sales, this booming industry can be a little like the Wild West, which makes educating yourself on both the product and the company from which you buy it, all the more important. With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, which made the cultivation of non-psychoactive hemp legal, CBD is being produced without regulations which means anyone can make a product, slap a label on it, and sell it to the general public, which is a pretty scary thing to think of. What this means is that in some cases, consumers have no real idea what they are putting in their bodies. If you are trying to steer clear of THC for drug tests or other reasons, you may be rolling the dice here. Make sure when you purchase your CBD, you are purchasing from a from a reputable company which guarantees 0.00% THC, as well safety and efficacy in manufacturing.

So how do you capitalize from a business perspective? The possibilities are numerous. Many investors are putting their money in stocks. Companies such as Aurora Cannabis, Constellation Brands, Innovative Industrial Properties, KushCo, Medmen, iAnthus, Marimed, Tgod, United Cannabis are a couple one can dip their toes in. If you go this route, do your due diligence though. The stock market is a risky place and it is important to understand the risk you are taking if a company doesn't perform as you would like.

If you don't want to take that risk or you don't have the capital to invest thousands in the stock market, you can become a distributor for an established company. Paul Zane Pilzner, author of the Wellness Revolution, wrote that “The greatest entrepreneurial opportunities will be in distributing, rather than manufacturing, health and wellness products” during the health boom that we are experiencing in the 21st century. Many companies now are using the Network Marketing format to distribute their wellness products for people to create a residual income and cash flowing asset. In this format, business owners promote products by word of mouth advertising and social media to save the owners in advertising costs. The savings are then passed on to the business owner, who is paid commissions on their product sales as well as a large commission on the the overall volume of other distributors who have come into the business with them.

Network marketing is simply a system of invisible franchising where the middle man is cut out, and the business partner has unlimited income potential by leveraging a simple system of duplication. Choose wisely as not all companies are created equal. Seek out credible and proven leadership that offer multi-billion dollar categories coupled with a disruptive product line. I recommend you do your research on what makes the opportunity a unique one in the marketplace. Study the compensation plan and always ask how much of the company’s gross revenue is paid out to the distributors. . Furthermore, do your research to find out if the company has a 3rd party investor and/or are debt free. Many people will ignore this because they think all companies are created equal. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

As you can see, there is much that this blossoming industry, as well as disruptive product can do for you. The opportunity is here and presenting itself, and many savvy and business minded individuals are investing in it.
