Home is where the heart is...
I'd never really paid much attention to the environment, I think I've always been a little bit in denial, well, not denial as such, but if I can't see landfill, and I can still get water from the tap, and Glad Wrap from the roll, and plastic plates from the supermarket, then, how much difference can one person make? That was until I read some articles that gave me some pretty startling facts.
Did you know that every piece of Glad Wrap (cling film for you U.S. peeps), that has ever been made, since it's invention, is still sitting around somewhere, either in landfill or clogging up the oceans. That's every piece, ever. It doesn't break down. For some reason, that stuck with me. That's an awful lot of thin, clear plastic, that is being dumped on our planet.
And don't get me started on paper towel. I am a self-confessed paper towel junkie, I'd go through 2 rolls a month, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. Recycled or not, a heck of a lot of trees had to be destroyed to bring me that paper towel.
Then, there's the chemicals! I have two young girls, 7 and 4. I'm spraying away, nostrils and sinuses burning in the process, thinking, "I'm keeping things sanitary for my children!" But then I read that you actually need to leave spray on cleaners on the surface for 10 minutes at least before the active ingredient actually starts to work, and cleans and sanitises. Hands up who does that? Certainly not me. So I'm pumping the air, myself, and my children full of cleaning chemicals that weren't actually doing anything. Bright, huh?
Look, I could go on and on about all the horrific things I've done, Environmentalist of the Year, I was not.
But one day I stumbled upon Norwex, a range of products that has reduced the amount of chemicals and plastic waste in my home to virtually nothing.
I know it's so easy to fall into the "I'm only one person," and "how much difference can one person make," trap. And singly, it might not be a huge difference, but if I can help one home change their habits, and another, and then another, and another after that, I can see the bigger picture.
Are you ready to be a part of the bigger picture? I'm not a sales person, I'm not into selling, ironic, given I'm in Direct Sales, but I'm passionate about people, my home, your home, everybody's home, and protecting the Earth for our children.
