Hard Sell is Dead in MLM
How long have you been in the direct selling world? Direct selling here means MLM and Network Marketing.
If you started more than 5 or 10 years ago, you would have recruited people into your business by inviting people to your business opportunity without revealing too much. You would ask everyone you had in your Rolodex to come to company presentation and when they asked you what it was about, you would probably tell them to just trust you and attend.
Out of the 10 people you invite, 6 would decline because you were reluctant to reveal what it was about and so they lost their trust in you. Of the 4 who actually attended the event, maybe just 1 decided to join the business.
You would have also realised that the 6 people who didn't even attend the company presentation and the 3 who attended but didn't sign up, started avoiding you at functions and stopped answering their phones.
And then after 3 months, it dawns on you that even that 1 person who joined stopped buying the products and hasn't been recruiting. You think that the more aggressive you are in recruiting, the more successful you will be.
You keep pounding the phone and practically harassing people to join your for some secretive meeting that will make them rich in 30 days or 3 months. You begin getting frustrated and maybe even give up on your MLM business.
It's all these tactics that have given direct selling a very bad name. There's even a joke that if you want some space on a bench anywhere, just tell people seated next to you that you are involved in MLM and they will scoot in an instant.
The effectiveness of projecting on a giant screen the cheques made out to the top distributors has also worn off.
Hard sell tactics in the MLM world are dead or if not dead yet in your country, are in decline.
The new MLM professional, realises that not everybody who joins the MLM world, is doing it for the money. Some are in it because they love the product. Others do it because it's an opportunity to earn some money while having the freedom to work from home.
