The #1 Business Killer And How To Cure It

Last time I talked about How To Guarantee High Performance.

Let’s continue that discussion, shall we?

We’ll get to the killer in a minute, but first let me set the stage…

If the only time we ever have to do anything is now, why do we tend to spend so much time in the past and the future?

I believe it’s mostly because people tend to look at things with a skewed perspective of time. We’re looking too far ahead to see what’s right in front of us, or making future mountains out of a current molehill. 

What can we do to keep our brain from replaying the past and projecting into the future?

Concentrate on one day at a time. 

You don’t build a wall, you lay bricks. One at a time. You put a puzzle together one piece at a time. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

When you can forget about what you want to get done this year, this month and this week, you’re left with the only period of time that’s worth considering.

How can I say that?

Because if you’re consistently working every day on your performance goals, with no thought for what the outcome of each day is, you’ll be guaranteed to succeed. It’s just a matter of time.

If you’re one sale short for the week, you can’t force someone to buy from you in order to meet your objective. But if your plan was to make 10 videos and you’ve only finished 9, you can certainly shoot another video before you quit.

See the difference?

When you concentrate on the things you can control, you’ll almost always be able to put in a bit more effort to reach your goal. 

Let’s talk about neediness.

Neediness is a killer. It will kill your hopes, destroy your dreams and lay waste to your planned future. if you need something from someone, they are in control of the situation.

Write this down, and never forget it.

In any situation, the person who cares the least is in control.

When you don’t care about the outcome, you’re completely free to come to any solution. If your product isn’t the best one for your prospective customer, you can let it go. You can quit trying to close, and start working on the best solution for your clients.

Here’s the weird thing about it…

The less you’re dependent on the outcome, the more relaxed and confident you’ll be. It’s easy to focus on the other party and what they want. You’ll find it smooth sailing to come up with the best solution for them. 

All of those things will increase trust and respect. 

You’ll make more sales because you’ll be more effective at finding a solution.
