Before You Refinance Your Mortgage or Apply for a HELOC, Read This!

Before you refinance your mortgage and turn your 30-year mortgage into a 37-year mortgage (many financial institutions may try to get you to refinance your mortgage every 5 to 7 years to use your equity to consolidate bills, do home improvements, or take a needed vacation) there are a few things you should know.

Your first mortgage is “Front End Loaded with Interest!

Only a small amount of your mortgage payment is going toward the principal.

It’s why we pay for years, and it seems the amount we borrowed is decreasing very slowly.

In most cases, you can pay your mortgage for 20 years and still possibly owe close to half of what you originally borrowed.

So, a second mortgage is not the answer!

Neither is a Home Equity Line of Credit!

There are Pros and Cons of getting a HELOC, but one of the biggest is the possible variable interest rate you will pay when you use the line of credit that comes with your HELOC.
