WHAT A LOVE AFFAIR!
The first thing a person is asked to do when joining a company is to make a list of the people they know. It’s usually a list of 100 people. It’s called your warm market. Most people don’t like going to their warm market. Why? Because your warm market know you for who you are, where you work for the last 5,10, 20 years. In their mind they’re thinking, “What do you know about owning a business or the product you’re “pushing”?”
The Internet changes everything because it gives you access to an unlimited number of people. The Internet can replace your warm market. The Internet is your warm market.
How many people do you know use instant messaging on the Internet to meet other people? I know many people that use the Internet to find dates. Heck, a good friend of mine met his wife online. How about finding people online to talk about your business? Hello Social Media!
The Internet can save you a lot of time and aggravation. Imagine walking into a room full of strangers to network. Many who wouldn’t be interested in what you had to say. It’s the silly cliché of going through 100 “no’s” for every “yes.” Who thought of that anyway? I don’t want to waste my time with people who are not “qualified” to work with me in my business. Here’s a different spin. How about walking into a room that has millions of strangers in it and everyone has a profile telling you all about himself or herself. Now that’s an interesting concept.
It has been said that your success in business is going to be based on the number of people and the caliber of the people you talk to. Your best choices will be people who know a lot of other people. And how will you know you’ve met someone that know a boatload of people? Just look at the number of “friends” they have on their profile.
Hundreds of millions, actually billions of people are using the Internet. Facebook alone has close to 2 billion users.
It all boils down to skills. You must know the basic skills of listening. People love to talk about themselves. Can you hear them? They are out there desperately waiting for someone with the skills to lead them in the right direction. I know they are out there. I used to be one of them.
