Uber Prospecting

I had a discussion with a prospect of mine that was very interesting to say the least. This young man is an Uber driver and he is building is network marketing business while driving people around for Uber. I have to say that this is the type of person that will crack the 5% and be successful in Network Marketing.

I will try and do justice in explaining how he does it. He said he will aways try to engage his ride first. Sometimes they are busy and not very interested in conversing much. However, when they are the fun begins.

The first thing he does is to get them talking about themselves. This is the key. You can ask what they are doing in your city if the are a traveller or what they do for a living. If the weather is a topic for the day, talk about the weather! "Boy, it's really hot out there today", you might say.

Eventually, when they are done talking about themselves, they will almost ask you about yourself. It is so important for you to plan ahead and be ready for this.  You need to know what you are going to say before you are asked.

This particular person is in a nutritional MLM company so he has a quick speech explaining that he is in the health and wellness industry. "So many people are concerned with their heath today", he will offer up. This is enough to often get people to start asking questions. There will be times when the person you are talking to has no interest whatsoever. At this point, simply change the subject and DO NOT push the issue. 

If it were me, I would, when asked, tell people that I am in the network marketing business. They may ask what it is; they may express interest and they may say something negative like it's a pyramid scheme or something. Again, the key is to drop the subject if you are going down the wrong road.

Although, my brilliant new friend is using his Uber gig to talk to people, every one of us could do something similar. We all end up in long lines at the grocery store, right? How about at a bus stop or sitting on a airplane? 

The formula is simple. First, get you new friend to talk about herself or himself. Wait until the questions sling shot back on you and then take action.
