10 Dot Com Truths

Here is a list of 10 Dot Com Truths that I wish I knew when I first got started online back in early 2017.

(1) You don't need to pay a lot to get started. Expensive courses are over-rated and the reviews you need for a lot things online are based on affiliate commissions the reviewer receives if you buy from their link.

(2) Books are the best place to start learning about the online world. The second best place to learn is by observation. See what others are doing and learn from that. This will be your greatest source of learning and inspiration to figure out what you like, what you don't like, what resonates with you and your audience, etc.

(3) You should start your journey online by selling a service as a freelancer. Coding, programming, FB advertising, copywriting, graphic design, video editing, and so on. All these skills are going to be required to have when you want to start any other type of business anyway, i.e. Amazon, Dropshipping, Print-on-demand. They all require 1 or more of these skills anyway. So start with SKILLS and sell it as a service. That's the cheapest and fastest path to monetization.

(4) If it's "free" you are being sold something after. If it's cheap, there are more expensive stuff coming up. If it's very expensive, it's to account for ads and affiliate commissions. Make sure you understand the business model before investing money or too much time into it.

(5) Be skeptical of marketing. Even when people say "we don't believe in get rich quick", they still market it that way. 

For example: Live webinars aren't really live. No countdown timers, no scarcity, and no losing a deal - it's mostly made up and even fabricated to drive "conversions", i.e. make you buy.

For example: No matter which marketer you are following or consuming from, make sure you really understand how do they make their money. What is their business model? This will differentiate between those who are ripping you off for their profit and those who provide real solutions to your problems as a beginner that enables you to find success.

(6) Software can be expensive and/or complicated, or both. And it can also be extremely affordable and simple. You're never locked down to 1 option. Beware of 1-time deals, but keep an eye out for good ones too. Don't chase shiny objects. Get what you actually need.

(7) The most important aspect to learn and master is how to grow your audience and acquire customers. Sales and marketing. That is where the bulk of your focus should be on. This means if you are completely new, you should have your first client THIS WEEK. 

(8) The best way to start with audience growth is through organic advertising strategies. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube (although I found Facebook to be the best). Simply start talking and engaging with people. Building relationships regardless of whether people will become clients or not. This process will not only grow the audience, it will teach you what your audience wants! You can learn about their problems, their frustrations, so you can evolve as a business to accommodate for their needs and wants.

(9) Know your numbers from the get-go. How much are you living expenses? How much is your debts? How much do you make? How much do you need to make to quit your job? How much do you pay for software in the business (or need to)?  

(10) Your goal with all this is to ultimately make passive income. Money that comes in regardless of your investment of time. Until you have passive income, you don't truly have a business. It won't come easy, it won't be the first thing that happens, but keep that goal in mind and figure out how to transition to that stage where how much money you make has absolutely nothing to do with the time you spend.
