8 Dumb MLM Mistakes I've Made in the Past 17-Years

Today, I want to share 8 dumb MLM mistakes I have made at some point in time during the past 17-years. Hopefully, you can learn from my mistakes so you can avoid them.

# 1 Joined a Company at the WRONG TIME

I repeated this mistake over and over and over for nearly 15-years. If everyone knows the name of your company you have already missed the boat. You want to join a company BEFORE it has hit momentum. Timing is everything. Avoid ground floor opportunities, but get in early.

# 2 Not Using My Own Talents Sooner

We are all wired differently. I only wish I would have started using my own natural talents and abilities sooner. It wasn't until I starting using my talents (writing) that I became a rock star recruiter. Figure out what you are naturally good at and leverage those talents to grow your business.

# 3 Comparing Myself with Others

I still make this mistake from time to time. Never compare yourself with anyone else in the industry, EVER. It is the kiss of death for your business. Only compare who you are with who you are capable of becoming. When you compare yourself with others, you don't see the whole story.

# 4 Not Attending Events

In my first company, I attended ALL events. After that experience, I said I would never go to events again. That was a big mistake. This is an event driven business. Promote all events and attend every event.

# 5 Recruiting Down

One of my biggest mistakes is recruiting people who have failed in the industry, people with no influence or leadership skills and people with a bad self-image. This has created a ton of extra work and frustration for me. Recruit up whenever possible. Look for people who are sharper, more successful and more motivated than you. They are great prospects.

# 6 Stopping & Starting

You have to put your nose to the grind and never stop. Stopping and starting will crush your business. Be persistent and consistent and never EVER let a month go by where you don't recruit at least two new reps. This keeps the momentum going and shows your team you are setting a good example.

# 7 Switching Companies

I used to switch companies whenever I found an issue I didn't like. That was a huge mistake. No company or corporate management team is perfect. Pick the company you want to have your problems with and ride it out. You'll be glad you did. Every time you switch companies you lose a little bit of credibility AND you have to start over.

# 8 Treating Non-Producers Bad

I used to be a dick to my non-producing downline. I wondered whey they weren't high achievers and producers like me. I have since learned that we are all different and everyone on your team is important. Never pressure anyone to do more with the business than they want to. Love on everyone and meet people where they are at, but work with the willing.

Final Thoughts

There you have it folks. These are 8 dumb MLM Mistakes I've made through the years. I hope you can learn from me. Please keep in mind, I've probably made hundreds of other mistakes as well. These were just the first 8 that come to mind.
