It's All About You
You are the source of everything that will make you a success.
A friend of mine once told me, "Dave, you're a master of blowing your own horn."
He said it because I had, once again, just related how I was very good at one thing or another. Maybe I really wasn't that good at it. But that didn't stop me from pointing out a success I'd achieved.
Of course I was exaggerating the situation and making fun of me being "All That". Fun with friends, but makes most people think you're a boastful jackball. And they'd probably be right.
But when it comes to promotion, especially self-promotion, you've got to let people know what you're all about. It won't do you a lick of good to be like everybody else. You've got to stand out, one way or another.
The single best way to do that is by being yourself.
It's crazy, but most people have a hard time being themselves.
Why?
Because they (maybe you) think there's nothing special about yourself. But there is. You've got a unique perspective on life. Situations you've been in have a personal meaning to you. Your way of looking at the world is yours alone.
So use it.
No matter what it is you want to promote, present it your way. Talk about yourself, your experiences, your take on things, and what you do.
Why did that happen to you? What lessons did you learn from it? What will you do differently next time? How has the experience shaped your life?
When you weave your personality into your marketing, it'll be 10x more interesting and entertaining to your followers. That's why they follow you in the first place. Because you're interesting. You're like them, you've had similar experiences, and you're entertaining them with stories about how you used what's happened to you to create success.
It's not as hard as it sounds.
Think about the last time you were at work, and someone asked you about your weekend. I bet you had no trouble telling them what you did and what happened. There was likely something funny about it. All you did was tell them about your weekend.
Understanding that people really are interested in YOU is the starting point.
Once you get that, you're on your way to successful self-promotion - which is the foundation of every kick-butt online marketing business.
