It is Time to Take Action!
As we approach the beginning of a new year, it is time to reflect on our accomplishments, failures, plans, hopes and dreams. Are you in the same place you found yourself last year at this same time or have you moved closer to or further away from where you really want to be? Have you analyzed your situation to death or just made a plans that you have not fully set into motion? Have you at least taken the first step to working the plan?
Whatever your situation is, you are not alone in your inaction. All too often, we find ourselves planning to change our lives in the new year by setting unattainable dreams as our goals. Those dreams are only beyond our reach because we do not have the tools necessary to do what it will take to make them a reality. It is so much easier to make plans that we can easily abandon blaming our environment (including the people around you) than to take unfamiliar actions that would change what you are currently accustomed to experiencing. In other words, your commitment to making a change means little when you can easily justify breaking it by not taking action to make a step in the direction of fulfilling your commitment to change your life.
Taking action does NOT necessarily mean giving up everything you are accustomed to for something totally different. On the other hand, it does mean you need to take action that is different than what you normally would do to create a different outcome than what you have always gotten from what you do. For example, if you want to add some exercise into your daily schedule to improve your health and well being, you could try setting your alarm to get you up 15 minutes earlier each day. To take maximum advantage of your added time, have some exercise options already in mind in case you only manage to get an extra 5 minutes the first few mornings. If you persist on maintaining your new goal of exercising every morning, that 15 minutes will probably stretch to 30+ minutes a day based on the results of the average person that finds their energy levels to increase throughout the remainder of the day well worth the time they devote to their new morning ritual.
This same type of action plan can be adapted to business. Taking a small step towards attaining your business goals might be as easy as finding a new source of tools, education and community to learn what works best.
