Time to Evaluate Your 6 months Progress
I wanted to write this press release because we JUST crossed the halfway mark and with an upcoming long weekend it is the perfect time to set time aside to evaluate goals and contemplate what our game plan should be in the second half of the year.
We all know we are in business for ourselves. Nobody is going to come knocking on our door looking for a progress report. This is the fun part of being our own boss. We also get to call ourselves into the office and have a heart to hear talk about how we performed the last six months.
If you have been hitting them out of the park then great, see if you can scale it up if you have not then it is time to step back and evaluate.
Here are some tips I have for evaluating your progress;
First make sure you have measurable goals with measurable action steps. It is only then that you can truly determine what is working and what is not working. As they say goals that cannot be measured cannot be managed. I normally state these goals in revenues, such as make X amount of money in 2016.
Secondly, if something did work for you, ask yourself if it was planned or if it was a welcomed surprise. Sometimes success happens as a byproduct so we want to evaluate both. If it was planned then make sure you have a clear understanding of what worked because then you want to scale that up. If it was a welcomed surprised ask yourself how it happened. Then ask yourself what you can do to duplicate that.
Third, determine the things that did not work for you. Figure out what did not work for you, I know sometimes this is very hard but I think we all have an idea. Is this something that can be fixed or do we need to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch.
What most people don’t realize is that seasoned business owners do this constantly, that is how they learn what works and what does not work. It also allows them to stay on their toes, because if the market is shifting they can quickly adapt and go on as if nothing happened.
So I hope the tips I have outlined above will shed some light on your progress and help you move forward and finish the year strong.
To your success!
